Another move out of ...'Dark - Age - mentality'... for Northern Ireland

 I APPLAUD THE NIFL DECISION

for the reasons given below

Belfast live reports "Now matches in the top three flights of football in Northern Ireland, which come under NIFL's jurisdiction, could be played on any day of the week and Lawlor said football here "must evolve or risk being left behind".

up to now the main opposition to the playing of soccer ( protestant football) being played on a Sunday has come from the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster.

I use the term protestant football as compared to Gaelic football (catholic football) which has traditionally been played on a Sunday and any other day of the week

back in 2008 the BBC reported on a Free Presbyterian protest against Sunday soccer

I would love to find a word for that other than hypocrisy, maybe somebody can enlighten me, everyday being a school day

any activity being done on a Sunday apart from God-worship seems to be opposed by this free Presbyterian church ( here after represented by FPC ) despite their belief outlined in their book " Separated unto the Gospel " in which they state that the sabbath can be any day of a week that follows six days of labour

click on the link and go to page  28 and read the following

the people playing the soccer could have their sabbath any other day of the week

new to get really interesting

in 2019 the decision was made to hold the Belfast City Marathon on a Sunday , instead of a Monday, in line with the rest of the world.

on Que, there's a FPC protest outside Stormont protesting about that decision

reported by BBC

i wish to draw your attention to one of that line of clergy.  4th from the right.  wearing civilian attire rather than clerical garb. that is the Reverend, sorry, start again, that is Professor, Doctor, the Reverend Ian Brown, from the Martyrs Memorial FPC in Belfast .

The Martyrs Memorial was establish by the late firebrand preacher Rev Ian R.K. Paisley, where Paisley was pastor up until 2011 when the denomination turned against him .

Professor Ian Brown is an interesting character.

He has published loads material on the internet from his time in Londonderry when he was involved with the government and morals committee of the FPC.

he has an internet BIO in which he tells of his family life his church involvement and what interests him apart from family and church

He is a big soccer fan , big , HUGE.  so much so that he collects soccer dolls, made by the Subbuteo Company . Quoting from his bio which reads :-

FAVOURITE FOOTBALL TEAM ... I’ll need to tiptoe round this one as I’m close to the 'border' between the Green and Red of East Belfast and the Blue of South Belfast, so I’ll play safe and run up the white flag.  Leeds United has been my team since 1970 ...

Leeds United has been my team since 1970 ...

think about that , its now 2025,

for 55 years this man who belongs to a church that opposes all sporting activity on a Sunday, is prepared to make a stand in public to oppose events, and

for 55 years has supported a UK soccer team that will as FPC put it, Desecrate the Sabbath .

is that not sin enabling, or sin promoting, or edifying sin? ?

Not just supporting that club privately, Proudly he broadcasts  that support to the world wide web.

the Word HYOCRISY comes to mind, if there is another word for that type of attitude other than hyocrisy i would like to be enlightened , every day being a school day.
